Fall Flounder Fishing

Fall weather on the Gulf Coast of Texas has been slow coming. We have had a couple of weak cool fronts pass through but nothing to lower the bay waters significantly. As we enter the first week of November, maybe the pattern will change and the annual flounder migration will kick in.

I’ve made a few attempts to test the waters by fishing, but very windy conditions hampered my being able to spend enough time on the water. But I did manage to slip out under good conditions Thursday and Friday mornings. The water was in good shape and the tide was moving out.  I caught two flounder Thursday and followed Friday with another flounder and speckled trout. All were caught on Hogie shrimp tails, red with a white tail. I used a 1/4 ounce lead jig head and bounced the lure off the bottom with a slow retrieve. I fished the rock line and it cost me a few lures, but to me it’s worth it.

Two 17 inch flounder.

It should just be just a short period of time before the flounder migration is in full swing.

Thanks for your email David. I’ll reply soon.
Looks like everything is working fine again, at least here from the computer at work. Will test it at home from my laptop tonight.
