I arrived at the end of the Texas City Dike around noon. I had a difficult time finding finger mullet with my cast net and that gave me a late start fishing. But experience and old age has caused me to slow down and not be in such of a hurry. So I settled in and put out a couple of lines.
The day turned out to be a very good one for me. I caught four flounder, but one was quite large, weighing over 7 pounds. She was 25 inches long.
Live finger mullet was used for bait and it was fished on the bottom with about 2 ounces of weight.
A cold front is coming early next week. That should make things interesting, if not difficult, for fishing. But we shall see.

Hi Joe. I really don’t know. But let me do some checking.
I know you can’t give me the answer I need but you might steer me to the one that does My wife and I love to fish at the dike and sometimes I see people camping at night with pop up or RV is it OK to do that now . I know the rule says no just asking if it has change. Thanks
Black Drum, Speckled Trout, Sheepshead, Sand Trout, and Whiting.
Sorry, but your comment just showed up. I didn’t fish Wednesday or Thursday on the dike. I imagine some flounder are still around. Hope you got to go. Let us know.
Dave and others…. any fishing updates for wed and thurs please. I am thinking of going down this weekend after looking at those pictures. So jealous. I didn’t want to head down with nothing to show. Saw the weather should be nice, but saw the tide report. I have a question is it that import to avoid the low tides… saw that high tides was before/after sunrise/set? or does that not matter much during the flounder run. Appreciate it and I always enjoy your site.
What fishes can we get at the dike during the winter time dec-mar? Never fishi there in the winter time before. Thanks,
Yes, I should be on the dike those days.
Hey, cast net sinkers – that’s pretty smart.
I have only been back for a week and we went to Dallas to see my daughter this past weekend, so, no, I haven’t been fishing for over a week. I am going to take off wed and thrus this week, my goal is to fish at least one of those days. Will you be around?
Yep Bob, I use cast net sinkers taken from torn nets that I find. The current does run pretty swift at times, but the added weight also keeps the mullet from getting hung in those treacherous rocks. That gives the flounder time to find the bait. Have you been out lately?
Wow, that’s a big fish. A 2oz sinker? There must be some current going along those rocks.
