I had some blue crabs in an ice chest since Friday. Needless to say, they had died and were getting a little foul. I decided to make a quick run to the Dike to recycle them. When I arrived, the water was too nice not to fish, so I held my breath and put a couple of those stinkers on the hooks.
I met a fisherman named Tim who wasted no time hooking into a monster. He had a great fight using light tackle. After a ten to fifteen minute grind, he landed a very nice black drum. This was his first time to fish the Texas City Dike and I must say he did very well. He also hooked into another black drum only to have it break off at the rockline.
I shot a little video of his fight. It’s the closest thing I got to a fish as my lines remained dormant the entire time I was there. I think I enjoyed watching Tim catch his first black drum on the dike more than if I had landed it myself….Well that might be stretching it just a bit.
It was a great afternoon of fishing. A nice cool breeze from the north and clean water conditons.
By the way, Tim was using live shrimp. They preferred that over stinky dead blue crab. I would too.
Hey David,
thanks for the reply. This week we won’t make it down there. We are taking our 3 year grandson for his very first fishing trip to a local pond close to home. I know he will be more interested in running around, climbing and other fun activities but maybe I can hook him to get interested in fishing too.
Me and my wife are doing ok. Still on the hunt for a new job which really is bothering me since unemployment will run out before long. No idea what will happen then if I can not come up with a job. Was even thinking about getting a CDL and driving one of the semi trucks but my health conditions might not allow that. It just doesn’t look good if you you just can’t take any job due to certain limitations and if you are over a certain age.
Hello Leo. Yep, they’re fun to wrestle. Come get you some.
Cool vid, thanks for sharing. I have got to make it down there. Those drum put up a good fight don’t they.
Well let me know if y’all catch anything.
Just kidding favorite son in law. Let’s go!
Man I cant wait to fish with my favorite father in law.
Hello Rico my friend. Great to hear from you. Yes, I am finished with the contract job and hoping for another. But in the meantime, I’m enjoying some time off between honey-do’s.
I really hope you can make it down sometime soon while I’m off. One of these days we will actually have to shake hands instead of tap keyboards. Hope all is well with your family.
Congrats Tim, nice fight and nice fish. I bet another guy is hooked to the dike now.
Great video Dave and I’m glad to see you seem to find time going out to the Dike more often again.
Are you in your semi retirement yet or are you still doing contract work?
If weather will stay steadily nice for a few days, we will come down to the dike before long.
