I spent the weekend a few hours from home and didn’t make my normal trek to the Texas City Dike. The weather was unpredictable as normal this time of year. But the weather didn’t stop one young lady from making a fine catch. Melissa sent a comment about landing a big Bull Red Friday from the Texas City Dike. She included a picture and I wanted to make sure everyone saw this handsome fish.
Congratulations Melissa and I look forward to your next catch.

Great Melissa. Glad to hear that you are taking care of yourself while enjoying the sport. I don’t know if you’ve heard the old saying, “The nut don’t fall far from the tree.” In your case, I will bet that your future little one will also be a fine angler. It will be in his/her blood. Thanks for posting, and yes, take lots of pictures.
Don’t worry, Dave! I’m very careful, especially lately, as I slowly lose my sense of equilibrium from my quickly growing ‘bump’. Plus, I’d never go fishing alone at night, anyway … I enjoy having someone around to witness my impressive catches
All my friends tell me that this baby will be a born angler. I hope this is the case!
Maybe I’ll see you on the dike sometime this weekend! I’ll try to catch something that will make a nice picture for you.
That’s fantastic Melissa. Congrats on another very good outing. Sounds like you’ve got it figured out. It’s always good to try new bait. You never know what the fish want unless you try.
Be very careful fishing on those rocks at night. Sometimes you can’t see where the algae is and on low tide, if you step wrong, it can cause you to slip and fall. Trust me, I’ve been there and done that.
Thanks for posting again.
Thanks so much, Dave! And thanks to Phillip for the comment. Hope this picture inspires people to come out and fish, no matter how crazy the weather is!
I’ve been meaning to tell you that I returned to the dike this past Tuesday night and, boy, was the place hopping! I couldn’t put my pole down all night, they were biting so much. I caught an excellent black drum (no picture of that one; it was nighttime and too dark for a decent picture), unending trout, and sheepshead. This time, in addition to live shrimp, I was using gulp shrimp as bait, and they worked great!
I hope to come out again this weekend. Hope the weather stays this fantastic!
Great catch! Especially in that weather!
