I hope some of you got out and enjoyed the weekend. Spring Break was in full force along Galveston Bay. I had family business to take care of and was unable to do any fishing. I did make a quick drive to the Texas City Dike Sunday afternoon. Even with overcast skies and very windy conditions, quite a few families enjoyed the bayshore. I didn’t see any fish landed, but a lot of lines were in the water. I did see some action at the fish cleaning tables, mostly boaters stopping to preserve their catch.
The weather man predicts some rain along with a cool front in the next day or so. I hope to get out this evening or tomorrow and give it a try.
I was looking over the stats on my little blog. Thought I’d add a shot that indicates where some of you who frequent my site are located. People from all over the world come here for a qlimpse of the Texas City Dike. I really enjoy seeing where you are located as well and wonder what the fishing must be like in your area. I appreciate your stopping by and equally enjoy your comments. Here are a few of you from the Great State of Texas.

Do you see yourself here?
Welcome to the area. Looking forward to hearing some good reports from you. Thanks for posting.
Great Blog! I usually fish the bays via boats but I have recently moved to the Clear Lake area and will be hitting the Dike and surrounding areas this weekend from land. My question is, what types of rod/reel setups are good for the Dike? Do i need a long surf rod setup, or will my light inshore rods(7 to 7.5 ft) with baitcasters or spincasters be adequate? Also, what rigs work best for the rocky bottom out there? Thanks for the info and keep up the good work here.
Well I actually don’t fish off the beaches, I fish in town off the T-heads in the Marina area, and so far the seaweed hasn’t been a problem. I do live on North Beach and haven’t seen any excess seaweed around here either. I know its about that time of year for it to be washing in. Got out for a wee bit yesterday, caught a few little croakers, enjoyed the sun and the birds…Think I may head for the same spot early this a.m. .
Glad you got out Randi. Is the seaweed bad down that way on the beach?
Caught my first ever gaftop catfish..it was only 4 inches but it was so cute..T-head, Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi.
So, Dave, do you know when they will start charging to get on the dike? If I remember correctly, early in the season they just charge on the weekends then as things heat up they are there every day.
It’s worth my $5 because they have been keeping it clean and have regular patrols, I was just curious.
By the way, on the map, I am the blue pin right there in Houston.
Thanks Randi. Yep, keep hitting that spot and some slot reds will surely pass by. Good luck.
I do see myself there…in Corpus Christi. I have been doing some fishing the past couple of days, haven’t caught anything to write home about, but I have enjoyed myself and the weather. I have a spot where I have been catching some “almost” keeper size reds (14″-17″)..hopefully next month some will be big enough..
